Welcome back to another exciting year at Dance Central. I hope that you all had a restful break and am raring to go again!!
CABARET There have been many of our students and teachers audition for this production at the Empire Theatre in April. I have also been lucky enough to have been invited to choreograph the production. I hope that as many of you as can will come along and support both me and any students/teachers who may be cast in the production
COSTUMES FOR LITTLE MERMAID is already in preparation. I am going to Melbourne on a fabric buying trip in early February, and I hope that we will have a first costume up in the front foyer for you to look at by midway through term 2. There will be alterations to the way in which this is administered this year. You will notice on your account that your costume fee is being added by the term. Costumes will also be costed out this year rather than there being a flat fee. Any credits or amounts outstanding will be adjusted in your Term 4 account. I am also hoping that I will purchase readymade costumes or have sets of costumes made for groups, which will be hired to you. I am trying to alleviate the stress for our sewers and still keep costs as low as I possibly can. I hope that there won’t be too many teething problems with the new system. Volunteers will still be needed this year for the following –
Group Costume Coordination – to coordinate one costume including being available to make any costumes within that group, to assist with the handing out of any hire costume and/or answer any questions on the making of the costume if necessary.
Headdress Makers – to make headdresses for the various groups
Fabric Dividers – to divide the fabric and notions for each costume if necessary
Instruction coordinators – to compile, photocopy and distribute instructions for each costume if necessary
Please help us if you possibly can – as it is with the help of volunteers that I am able to keep the costume costs as low as I can. I don’t want to have to pass on the cost of the immense amount of labour involved in these jobs to the parents if I possibly can avoid it.
DRAMA will commence for the term at the beginning of March
EISTEDFODD PRIVATE LESSON TIMES Please contact the office if you wish to have a time allocated to your for eisteddfod solos and/or examination preparation
ELITE PROGRAM in 2008 a trial elite program for students selected by Miss Benita Whalley will be offered at Dance Central. Miss Whalley is a Vocational examiner with the RAD and we are very fortunate to have her work with some of our students. This opportunity enables some students in our vocational levels to be offered tuition that can only normally be offered at full time vocational dance studios. Students have been approached for 2008, however, if there are any students who feel that they may like to be seen by Miss Whalley, please speak to Miss Vallette.
EXAM NOTICES will be given to those students who are to be considered for an RAD examination or assessment class. These notices will be handed in early March. If you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to write them in the parent’s book and I will call you. Please note that the permission forms AND MONEY for the examinations must be returned by the due date on the form. Students will not be entered for examination or assessment without full payment in advance.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Our talented music theatre class is performing this show on the 22 and 23 February at 8pm in Studio 1. We have decided to do an in house production for two reasons – firstly to give our talented students a performance opportunity and secondly to raise money for charity. ALL PROCEEDS this year will be donated to the Queensland Cancer Fund. PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PERFORMANCE BY BOOKING AT THE OFFICE BETWEEN 9AM AND 3PM. TICKETS ARE STRICTLY LIMITED AND WILL BE SOLD AT A FLAT COST OF $16/TICKET. REFRESHMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR BOTH PERFORMANCES If you are a business owner and would like to sponsor this event, please contact me. A program will be available of the performance and all sponsors will be listed in order of sponsorship amount.
CLASS TIMES are on the website for 2008. There may still be some minor changes to these as we settle in for the year. Due to our production of little Shop of Horrors, students who would normally attend class on Friday 22 February and students in Grade 1 and Grade 8 Ballet on Saturday 23 February please note that there will be no classes on this date. If you would like a credit for this class – please leave a note in the parents’ book and we will credit you in Term 2. If not then the amount that would be owing to you for the class that you miss will be donated to the Queensland Cancer Fund as a donation from the parents of Dance Central.
Once again welcome back. I hope that you have a great year with us and if you have any concerns that need to be addressed, please make a note in the parent’s book in the front foyer and I will contact you as soon as I possibly can.
Happy Dancing Alison
