Velocity is a semi-professional dance company that was established in early 2002. Velocity performs throughout the Darling Downs region for both corporate and charity events. They are regular guest artists at corporate events at the Empire Theatres and have also worked with Toowoomba City Council as the Centenary Harlequins in 2004.
Velocity have also performed for the Queensland Cancer Fund, the Make a Wish Foundation, Nurse of Year Quest, Vietnam Veterans, Shakespeare in the Park, Relay for Life and The Special Children’s Christmas Party to name but a few.They also compete regularly in the Ipswich and Lockyer eisteddfoddau.
Entrance to Velocity is by audition only. The company members generally perform at least 6 times/term and more towards the end of the year. Please note that this requires great commitment both on the part of the dancer and the parent. Dancers are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances as required and are asked to sign a contract to this effect.
There is no cost involved in membership of Velocity, however as all costumes are provided by the studio for company performances, a refundable costume hire fee of $20 will be charged. This will be returned when the costume is returned. Generally any income from performances is put back into costuming for future events, although occasionally a small payment for some corporate events is passed on to the dancers.
We welcome back Miss Megan Trinder as Dance Captain in 2010. Megan has been a member of Velocity since its inception and a very valuable member of the company.
